VLE disk tray backplane replace J4400

hi all...

I have this to perform..................................................... but as a plan gaps I think...........................

ASR disable?

healthcheck??

stop services??

possibly shutdown services command??

then reboot VLE  how?

and SN update?? as doc mentioned isnt very explanatory

TASK COMPLEXITY: 4

WHAT STATE SHOULD SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Quiesce all IO between VTSS and the VLE storage appliance and shutdown the server.

To quiesce IO between VTSS and the VLE storage appliance, vary offline all of the VL-RTDs. With

the VL-RTDs offline, no migrations will occur. If a VTV is being migrated at the time, it should be

allowed to complete. VTVs queued to be migrated will remain queued. That may result in some

repetitive error messages from VTCS (e.g. no RTDs available).

Depending on how long the VLE will be offline, customers can choose to live with the messages or they can change applicable management classes to a temporary management class that doesn't require immediate migration. When the VLE is available again, change the management class back to the original.

Prerequisites
1. Back up all data stored on array
2. Stop all system I/O to array
3. Use ESD Precautions.
4. Remove all power from chassis and components

To shutdown the VLE server, issue the following commands after login:

PLEASE NOTE:
These instructions were written for earlier versions of VLE code and threrefore instructions that must be run with root privileges are prefaced with the 'pfexec' command.  Newer versions of code do not use 'pfexec'.  If you are running more current VLE code then instead of using 'pfexec' preface these kinds of commands with 'sudo'.

# pfexec sync
# pfexec sync
# pfexec init 5

Verify Chassis Failure
1. Power LED (front) is amber
2. Audible alarm sounding.
3. All component fault LEDs green (Disk(front), SIM Power LED (back), Power supply LEDs (back)).


WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Removing Chassis
1. From back cabinet, locate chassis being replaced
2. Disconnect power cord from each power supply
3. Label mini-SAS cable for reconnection on the replacement chassis
4. Disconnect mini-SAS cables
5. Power Supply Loosen two captive thumb screws on power supply ejection levers and swing ejection levers fully outward to partially eject power supply
6. Pull power supply out of tray. Repeat 5 and 6 to remove SIM board.
7. Disk Drives.Press release button in and to right to release disk extraction lever. Swing extraction lever. Grasp middle of disk drive and pull toward you to remove from tray
8. Record slot location on uter drive casing for reinstall
9. Store disk drive in a static-free environment
10. Chassis Remove two system locking clips from lower corners of rear chassis
11. Front of cabinet, loosen four captive screws, two on either side
12. Grasp each side of chassis and pull it toward you, remove from cabinet

Installing Chassis
1. Front of cabinet, slide new chassis into cabinet until front flanges of chassis touch vertical face of cabinet
2. Tighten captive screws on each side
3. Back of cabinet, slide system locking clip onto each lower corner of chassis

Installing CRUs
1. Front of cabinet, install each disk drive and disk filler. Unlatch and swing extraction lever. Slide the drive into tray until extraction lever engages with tray connectors and the lever begins to swing closed. Press the extraction lever closed
2. Back of cabinet, install 2 SIM boards in SIM slots. Swing both extraction levers fully open position. Slide it into tray until it engages with tray connectors. Simultaneously push both extraction levers toward middle of board to seat it in tray. Tighten extraction lever captive screws.
3. Repeat Step 2 to install two power supplies

Finalizing
1. Back of cabinet, reconnect power cables into power supply
2. Replace tie strap on each power cord
3. Turn on power power supplies.
4. Reboot the VLE server.
5. Run the rediscover_devices script which is normally located in the /~/Downloads/*64 directory.
    cd /~/Downloads/*64
    sudo ./rediscover_devices

Checking Status

OK -> All tray and drive OK/Power LEDs are steady green and amber Service Required LEDs are off.
Amber LED blinking for any module: Reset module. If still Amber, contact Sun Customer Service Personnel
If alarm sounds after plugging in first power cord, the alarm will shut off once second power cord is connected.
When the reboot of the VLE server completes open a terminal window and check zpool status. Issue the following command: zpool status
Verify the status of the zpool is good.

NOTE:
We have had instances of J4410 JBOD chassis' arriving with the internal (electronic) serial number and name not matching the external physical label.
If this happens then at some later date a field service person could have difficulty in locating the correct JBOD for work being performed at that time.
To check for this condition:
1. Issue the following command: sudo ras_admin device_list
2. Check the output of the command above to insure the serial number on the physical label of the new JBOD chassis is listed.
3. If the new JBOD serial number is not in the list AND this is a J4410 JBOD AND the VLE is running VLE 1.5.0 or newer code then MOS knowledge document 2108161.1 (Doc ID 2108161.1) documents how to fix this problem.
   If there is a need to make this correction about 2 hours or more (depending on reboot time) will be required.
   This correction is something that can be scheduled for the next maintenance window if this maintenance window is not adequate but it should not be left undone long term.
