Virtual Machine Error

Hi, everyone.
I'm working with a java class and a dll developed by Telelogic Tau, which permits to connect to SDT tools via Java. When I call a certain native function I receive this error:

Can someone tell me more about this error?
Is it possible that I would not receive this error upgrading my version of the jdk? (I'm currently using jdk1.3). Maybe I'm saying something silly for it's the first time I encounter VM problems but.... can the virtual machine be changed?
