very slow "live migration" of oracle vm guests

he422002stJun 28 2012 — edited Jul 13 2012
I have two questions regarding "live migration" in oracle vm 3.1.1 (with very last patch sets)

1. Is it true, that there can only be one live migrationi of a vm at a time per oracle vm server (in vmware i can do a lot more at the same time)

2. I testet with separate "live migration" network with 1 Gbit per port (1 time without bonding and one time with bonding in mode 4), but the resultes are
very bad in terms of time it needs to migrate a machine. It results in same bad times for bonding and with not bonding.

Oracle VM Guest 16 Gbyte RAM took 7 minutes
Oarcle VM Guest 24 Gbyte RAM tooks 13 minutes

Clear the alternative would be 10 gbit Ethernet, but when i do live migration (vmotion) in vmware, even with the same 1 Gbit Network bandwith it goes much faster.

Coud it be that the storage layer is somehow participating in "live migration", because i have only slow nfs storage ?

Thanks Helmar
