VERY BASIC INSTALLATION QUESTION ??

Hi,
I am new to the UNIX Admin world, I have worked on unix machines as a user.

Recently I bought a sun U80 on ebay, so would like to know how to configure it. I started it works fine.

I did not assign any IP address. I connected it to a router with default IP address 192.168.X.1

I changed my /etc/hosts file and entered the IP address 192.168.X.10 and name of the machine that I had chosen.

I am trying to connect a laptop / pc thru network cable to the router o/p and try to ping the IP address 192.168.X.10 but it does not work.

What else I need now ??

I would appreciate any comments.
