Verifying and Burning DVD .iso *under* Solaris?

807559Apr 15 2006 — edited Apr 18 2006
OK, long time Sun/Solaris end user - just did my first install on my home PC using S10U1.

Sysadmins have always been there to take care of the details for me, I just had to show up and use the machine, now I'm trying to do it for myself ;-).

I can't figure out how to do the following. I've tried googling and searching Sun web properties (BigAdmin, here, docs.sun.com {currently not working}, etc.) without any luck. Would appreciate any help or information:

1) How do I verify a downloaded ISO image under S10U1? I have come across web references to md5sum, but there is no 'md5sum' command on my new install.

2) It seems I need to 'pkgadd' something, but from where and how?

3) In Gnome/file browser, I tried simply selecting the file, clicking right and selecting "Write to CD..." but then I get a complaint about no CD recorder being available. However, I've tried just putting a audio CD in the drive and that works fine (right down to obtaining the title and artist info from somewhere!), so this must be a settings or permissions issue? This is the same drive I used to create the original S10U1 install image DVD under Windows, so it is not a hardware issue.

Any help on the above would be very, er, helpful...

Thanks!
