VB6 IDE on Winodws 7 64 bit with OracleXE

user520672Nov 23 2009 — edited Nov 23 2009
We have just installed OracleXE and Oracle Objects 10.1.0.4 (32 bit) on a new PC running Windows 7 professional 64 bit.

We have also installed Visual Basic 6 with SP6 on the same PC (This PC replaces an old XP pro 32 bit development PC), and we use Oracle Objects and the Oracle Data Control extensivley in our apps.

Oracle 11 Standard 11.1.0.7 64 bit is also installed on the same PC

When running the VB6 Design Environment we cannot connect to OracleXE, we get a message saying that 'tnsnames cannot resolve the connect identifier...' However, when we run the compiled version of the same app, it connects fine (Compiled on the old PC).

Also of course, the SQL command shell connects without problem.

We are quite experienced with Oracle and we understand about the tnsnames.ora file, TNS_ADMIN environment variable, and the possibility of TNS_ADMIN key in the Oracle Homes in the registry. We have spent some time ensuring that these are correct to the best of our knowledge.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be wrong? Remebering that the only problem is when in the VB6 Design Environment.

Many thanks for any suggestions.
