var log messages

Hi ,
i got a problem in linux adminstration.
generally we get messages of linux os with this command
cat /var/log/messages

but i got this messages in my database server ie:-

[root@btdbnew ~]# cat /var/log/messages
Feb 26 04:03:02 BTDBNEW syslogd 1.4.1: restart.
Feb 27 09:19:00 BTDBNEW avahi-daemon[3096]: Invalid query packet.
Feb 27 09:19:40 BTDBNEW last message repeated 7 times
Feb 27 10:28:44 BTDBNEW avahi-daemon[3096]: Invalid query packet.
Feb 27 10:29:45 BTDBNEW last message repeated 2 times
Feb 27 10:33:33 BTDBNEW last message repeated 8 times
Feb 27 10:52:03 BTDBNEW last message repeated 8 times

my linux os informatio is:-
[oracle@btdbnew ~]$ uname -a
Linux btdbnew 2.6.18-53.el5PAE #1 SMP Wed Oct 10 16:48:18 EDT 2007 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
