Vapor Ware?
240932Jan 28 2005 — edited Feb 16 2005Just a comment on perhaps the worst experience of my life. For the past to weeks I have had the unpleasant task of building reports using Oracle reports 10g. The PDF works ok but the web layout is pathetic. During this time the program has crashed approximatly 10 million times (give or take). Wanna save a variable and add it to the web layout. . crash. Want a procedure to execute in the web layout. . . crash. Compile and crash would be my catch fraze. There is no error message in the log file of value. No stack trace even for me to post, all I get is:
05/01/28 12:15:05 Warning: Error reading transaction-log file (/C:/Documents and Settings/rparry/Local Settings/Temp/docroot/3000/persistence/transaction.state) for recovery: premature end of file
05/01/28 12:15:05 Forced or abrupt (crash etc) server shutdown detected, starting recovery process...
05/01/28 12:15:05 Recovery completed, 0 connections committed and 0 rolled back...
05/01/28 12:15:06 Invalid jsp taglib location: c:\docume~1\rparry\locals~1\temp\docroot\3000\orion-conf\..\jsp\lib\taglib does not exist or is not a directory

This does not just happen on my machine but on other developers boxes as well. For this stack trace all that has changed from a successful build was a procedure call to set a dumby var that we are not using anyway. Part of the trouble is that some reports work. ? ? ? It is only the arbitaray report that seems to have trouble. Same procedures, vars being applied to different reports. . . can't figure this one out for the life of me. I'm at the end of my tether here. . .and feel completely drained. If anyone has had the same bitter experience please post here. Not sure if there is a solution. If so that would be helpful as well. . . tend to think its an internal bug. Either way, I'm sure that some of you have had the same experience. Perhaps this post can grow so that our dis-satisfaction is recorded for future generations of Reports builders. . lets make there life better. . . I need a support group, a drink and something to smoke. . . thats the end of this week. . . back at it monday.
