v$sysstat : redo size

Hi,

I have a v.v.simple little job that goes and collects a daily grab of various sysstats that I can use for historical comparison day on day. Nothing more than that - very very simple. All I do is go get the value from gv$sysstat and store it (yes I know statspack can also do this but I am storing info for several databases centrally).

Now take this example for one of my non RAC'd databases. One would assume that day on day (with no instance restart) the value for "redo size" could only increase. However when I examine deltas over a few days I see that on one occassion the value for this stat has decreased over a 24 hour period.

How is this possible? Anyone aware of any caveats surrounding this statistic that I am missing?
