Using StarOffice Java API to read Excel format

Hi,

I am interested to use StarOffice Java API to read Excel format and output to generic XML format, like "<sheet><row><cell>a</cell>...". This is to be part of server-side batch import process of a J2EE application.
Is there an example on how this could be done? Also, if this could be done, can it be done so that SO GUI don't have to be active?
