Hi,
I have seen same question but has not been answered yet and the thread has been archived.
I would like to ask the same question because I don't want to wake old thread.
Using SQL Developer 4.1 to Query Impala with JDBC Driver
As Jeff mention there, the support will be specifically based on Oracle's Big Data Appliance.
This blog shows how to connect to Hive but not Impala

I have been trying to search about Oracle's Big Data
Quote from this whitepaper on Big Data Appliances from page 3.

Oracle Big Data Connectors
In addition to providing Oracle Big Data SQL and the full Cloudera software platform, Big Data Appliance utilizes Oracle Big Data Connectors to simplify data integration and analytics.
Big Data Appliance leverages Apache Sentry (an open-source project of which Oracle developers are founding members) to authorize SQL access via tools like Hive and Impala. By delivering and developing Sentry, Oracle delivers Big Data Appliance with the highest data security levels currently available for Hadoop.
Therefore, will SQL Dev also support Impala as Hive is supported?
And where can I find the correct documentation on how to access Impala via SQL Dev.
Thanks,
Buntoro
