using java plugin instead of jinitiator

Hello,

I'm trying to use a java plugin instead of jinitiator since i'm moving to ubuntu.
I've tried both the java-sun6-plugin and the OpenJDK Icedtea plugin but I have the same problem in both of them, the application runs but no icons appear.
I was wondering if this could have something to do with the versions since the jinitiator that was being used was 1.1.8.16, and the plugins i tried are sun-java6-plugin:6.22, and icedtea6-plugin:6b20-1.9.2-0ubuntu1.
