Using downstream mining

John StegemanFeb 12 2015 — edited Feb 12 2015

Hello,

With Integrated Capture, we can use a separate database to do the mining of redo and sending the trail to the target database. I have 2 questions about this setup:

  1. Can the downstream database (the log miner) service more than one source database? In our scenario, we'd like to have 2 source databases and to replicate some tables from each source to a single target database. There is no overlap between the two sources (separate tables, separate schemas, etc).
  2. (I know the real answer to this question - ask a sales rep, but I'd like to get an idea from people who have done this before if possible) Assuming that the downstream mining database is doing nothing but log mining, my understanding from the price list and footnotes is that we don't need a license for GG on this machine. Is that correct? What about the Oracle database running on that machine - it's only for the downstream capture, does it need to be licensed?
  3. In the setup I've described above (2 source Oracle databases, downstream logmining database, and a single target database), It seems to me that running the GG director server on the downstream logmining database makes sense. Any concerns/issues with this setup.

If I've missed this information in my reading of the documentation and trawling of the Googleverse, please feel free to point me to where I've missed something, and I'm happy to summarise my findings for the benefit of the community.

Thanks,

John
