using commits in update/insert/delete

Dear all;

I am so confused right now...I am read several articles on this and i dont know which is right or wrong anymore

If an update statement is written in a front-end client like asp.net, should we commit or not or should we just leave it to autocommit
Does this scenario apply with an insert statement as well
