Using Active Directory to authenticate connecting to oracle database

441662Jan 13 2009 — edited Jan 21 2009
What is the easiest way to setup Oracle 10g database to let Active Directory authenticate a user?

It seems external authentication is a security hole, but globally authenticated seems the way to go.

I have skimmed through various docs about this, but it is so complex. Why can it be as simple as the way Integrated Security is for Microsoft SQL Server 2000?

Also, is the Enterprise edition required, or will Standard edition work?

I'm not interested in using any other products, such as, Oracle internet directory or oracle application server, or whatever the docs try to convince you to use.
