User variables / form

user11440683Mar 1 2012 — edited Feb 20 2018
Hi,

Early in our project we had a problem with users crashing the Hyperion services as a result of selecting too much data when designing forms.

I thought we had resolved this by putting a limit on the number of blocks that Essbase can return via configuration, but now too close to go live for comfort, the issue keeps re-raising its head, and the thought of rolling this out to a large user community fills me with dread.

In our form design we have utilised user variables to limit the maintenance burden of having to maintain a large number of forms to cut the data into manageable chunks.

The problem with this is that users set their parameters on a wider basis for some heavily summarised forms, but then forget when returning to detailed input forms, at best this means they have a lengthy wait before getting an error, at worst this actually crashes the services.

Has anyone come up with any useful strategies for limiting this kind of issue, I know users need to be trained / take responsibility - but as it stands this is an accident waiting to happen.

The other difficulty is clearing variables once they have been set for too wide a data set, as planning remembers users' last choice and takes them to the same form next time they log in....

Any constructive suggestions will be very gratefully received.

thanks,

Robert.
