Use of @XWRITE as an all purpose solution to block creation issues - is it right and if so when?

Teresa ModestaOct 16 2019 — edited Oct 16 2019

Hi,

I am seeking general advice.

I have read various articles on solving missing block issues and thought I understood all of the options.

CREATEBLOCKONEQ

CREATENONMISSINGBLK

DATACOPY

CREATEBLOCK

ALLOCATE

etcetara

Then a colleague mentioned that he always uses @XWRITE with @loopback to write data on the same database and so my colleague tells me; -  to force block creation in all circumstances.

In terms of performance I found it hard to believe that XWRITE is the best option to solve the block creation issue, for one thing it is a top down function, for another thing I am always cautious when someone tells me that they have the answer for all problems.

So, can anyone provide any advice on use of XWRITE to solve block creation issue, can it be a good choice, and if so when, or suggest a better 'one method for all purposes' solution to block creation that is most efficient?

thanks,

Teresa.
