use of APPEND hint in UPDATE

Hi,

Plz suggest me One of my UPDATE statement is taking 6 hrs and updating 108888 rows.

UPDATE MODULETREE 
        SET MODULECODE='USPRJ.COL'|| SUBSTR(MODULECODE,14,LENGTH(MODULECODE)) 
WHERE   MODULECODE LIKE 'USPRJ.APT.COL%'

Can u plz suggest how do we tune this update statement. Will use of APPEND hint will impact on performance. One index is used by the Query which has only one column MODULECODE. If for tuning purpose, we have to remove UNDO generation, we an do it.
