Use EJB without a Web Application Server

Hi,
I've tried EJB under weblogic, oracle AS and websphere, it is fine and powerfull enough, but still there are some work that those WAS do and it is masked for us(developpers). I wish to do a small example of EJB, with only using Java commands (rmic, tnameserv, ...), is it doable ?
if it is feasible, is there any tutorial ?
