USB-to-serial adapter for V240!

807557Apr 10 2006
Try to set up a second serial communication path for V240 using an Edgeport/1 usb-to-serial adapter. Have done all the homework needed.
Have to use Solaris 8 on the new V240. The Edgeport device should be supported by Solaris 8 and I installed the latest USB patch 109896-30. This device has TI chip in it. All the setup should be good.

First tried to use original USB framework and saw drivers loaded as usb_mid and usbser_edge. Could not see additional serial port under /dev/cua and /dev/term. Then tried the magical "usbconfig" script and saw the additional serial port. Drivered being loaded are usba10_usb_mid and usba10_usbser_edge and these should be the right drivers for USBA1.0 framework. Was abel to establish a tip session with hyperterm on the PC I am working.

But here is the problem: the only setup works fine is to connect the Sun usb keyboard (type 6) to a USB port on V240, and the usb-to-serial adapter and Sun usb mouse (type 6) have to be connected through a USb hub then the USb hub connected to another USb port.

All other configurations won't work. For example, if I connected mouse and keyboard to USb hub then to one usb port and usb-to-serial adapter to another usb port, the tip session only works half way. The behavior is like this: I can see on the V240 side the string sent from PC via hyperterm; but on PC side, I see the strings sent from V240 side very slow and after several characters, no more characters can be seen from my PC.

Any idea what could be wrong? Please don't tell me to upgrade to Solaris 10 :) Thanks!
