URL HTTP STATUS CODE CHECKS IN OEM & monitoring the availability of IDOL (Autonomy search) backend c

venkata sudheerFeb 17 2017 — edited Feb 17 2017

Hi All,

I need your help and guidance regarding on the below mentioned things. The below are our requirements:-

1).Is OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager) is capable of performing URL HTTP status code checks and string checks in response.

2).what is the feasibility of monitoring the availability of IDOL (Autonomy search) backend components using OEM.

To what extent can we achieved the below mentioned things using OEM.

Can you please provide  details on OEM service availability checks, including the following?

  • Whether the string check needs a fixed string or it can be a regular expression
  • Whether such checks can be done at specific intervals
  • Whether failure notifications can be sent to group mail IDs

Below is a background of the application, current state and what is needed.

As part of the Dynatrace Proactive program, we are onboarding “search” application on to Dynatrace i.e. the team will create custom dashboards and alerts / notifications which will help the search team to monitor their application. This will be done on the frontend application more with a focus on JVM level monitoring (memory and thread management). Dynatrace agents are already setup on the servers running search front end application.

Application URL (as example): http://www.google.com/search/aaaa

Servers running web application: xxxxxxxx1111, xxxxxxxx1111

The search application relies on back end components i.e. IDOL server, DIH, DAH, Statistics servers and more.

Servers running backend components: xxxx1748, xxx1750, xxx1753, xxxxx1752

From the e2e monitoring perspective, monitoring availability of these components is also important.

The check for component availability can be done by testing URLs like below (listed 4 from a possible 150+ URLs). If the URL gives an HTTP status code 200 and contains a specific string pattern then it means that the component is up and running correctly.

currently no Dynatrace agents on the backoffice servers. Also, Dynatrace is an agent based tool and we may have to install many agents to cover all these components. Also, the team needs to check how to attach the Dynatrace agent to the IDOL processes; these components are running mostly with OOB setup and it can be complex. Dynatrace may be an overkill if it is only used for service availability checks.

plese guide me regarding on the same and provide your valuable points and suggestions to achieve the below things.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

VS Akondi
