URGENT ! Java Date Conversion to yyyy/mm/dd ??

I've invoked

date()

which returns me curent date in format Fri Jun 8 10:20:36 GMT +5:30 2001

whereas in my database the date field has type yyyy/mm/dd. I wanna convert this current date to yyyy/mm/dd. I don't know how to go about it. Somebody plz help !
