Upgrading oracle 9.2.0.8 to 11.2.0.2

681567Mar 28 2011 — edited Mar 28 2011
Hai gurus,
I am planning for migrating an oracle 9.2.0.8 database from 11.2.0.2. I have few doubts.

Old Server Details
Aix 5.3
Oracle 9.2.0.8
Raw devices used for data files

New Server Details
Aix 6.1
Oracle 11.2.0.2 (Planning to install)
Raw devices to be used for data files.

I have to take full backup of the database from existing server and restore in the new server.

Whether both oracle 9i and oracle 11g needs to be installed in the new server? I read some manuals and says that if we do through dbua, then it is necessary. I am preparing for manual upgrade. In the metalink note, 837570.1 - it was mentioned that i have to startup the database from old oralce home and run the script utlu112i.sql. Is this script can be run in the source machine itself? So that no need to install the oracle 9i software in the new server? Kindly guide.

Any other suggestions in this regard will be appreciated.

Thanks & Regards
Sridhar
