Upgrading from OATS 8.2 -> OATS 8.4, 8.5 or 9.0

DIYQAJan 18 2010 — edited Jan 19 2010
Hi,

We have been using Empirix now OATS for the last 5/6 years for Functional and Load Testing of web applications. We are however still running 8.2 (which since June 2009 is no longer being supported).
We intended to upgrade at the end of 2008 but were advised (by Oracle Support), due to some issues we had with 8.3, to roll back to 8.2 if it was working for us, and wait for 8.5 or 9.0

We purchased EMPIRIX because it was one of the only tools on the market, that allowed us to generate our scripts in Functional Test tool, with a little bit of VB help, and with some minimal tweaking in the Navigation Editor, we could play the scripts successfully back through the Load Tester.

Now, due to lack of support, and possibly missing features (including web browser limitations IE8 etc), we need to upgrade, but the question is to what? The other option would be to move to a different tool.

I have been reading various conversations about 8.5 and 9.0, and they seem be contradicting, and make the entire situation more confusing.
What I need to know is:
1) Will we be able to re-use our 8.2 scripts (Functional and Load Testing) in 8.5 or 9.0, or will they require re-writing?
2) Will we be able to continue to write our scripts in Functional Tester and play them back in the load tester (thin client) as we have been doing.
3) Are we forced to learn OpenScript and use OpenScript (either for 8.5 / 9.0 or in a soon upcoming release)?
4) Will scripts created in OpenScript for Functional Testing, be usable in Load testing or will we need to create seperate scripts again.
