Oracle Database Discussions

Hi, a bit of confused here, what should be the best possible route, and how to identify, which one will be the correct/best approach?

1. Upgrade from 12.1.0.2 ~> 12.2.0.1
2. Upgrade from 12.1.0.2 ~> 12.2.0.2 (18c)

I would like to take the #2 route, but coming here to the Gurus, please assist, advise & guide, along with the justification, because team here are going to ask the same, why this? need to do the same with my people, why taking one particular route.

Do share if there are any advisers out there for this, couldn't find any, or any script or any help will be highly appreciated/admired.
