Update RHEL AS Release 4 (Nahant) to RHEL Server 5.5 (Tikanga)

I have a machine in production with “Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant)” and we intend to update to “Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.5 (Tikanga)”. One question: Is it true that I should reinstall? or If possible: What do I anticipate, before proceeding? or What steps should I follow to do it?
