Update opatch inventory

Hi
I was patching 9.2.0.7 db server, and encountered the error:
"OPATCH_JAVA_ERROR : UpdateInventory got errors calling update inventory,..."
I think this may have been due to running an older version fo opatch, which I have now updated to 1.0.0.0.56
Is there any way of running an inventory update/refresh without dropping the db's and re-running the patch application with the new opatch version ?
