Uninstalling Java

Have the newest update for java (5.0 update4). A program will not start up after installing. Get message "Program was unable to load the Java Runtime Environment. Please download and install a newer version....." Tried to install Java newest again and it comes up already installed. Tried to remove from add/remove programs and comes up "You already have this version of the JRE installed. Please uninstall the product through your add/remove program utility before reinstalling" That is what I was trying to do.

Also tried to manually install java. It will not automatically install recieve error about uninstalling the java already there.

The problem is I can not uninstall Java to reinstall it.

Any ideas?
