Unable to stop script when prompted to "Enter Substitution Variable"

Jeffrey KempJun 9 2015 — edited Jun 18 2015

1. Load a script with a large number of "&"-style substitution variables into a SQL Worksheet.

2. Forget to SET DEFINE OFF.

3. Run the script.

4. Click "Cancel" on 100s and 1000s of "Enter Substitution Variable" prompts.

5. Keep clicking, because you're gonna be here forever, and dang it you don't want to have to kill the SQL Developer process.

Clicking the "Close" button doesn't work - it just cancels that substitution prompt and proceeds to the next one.

Workaround #1: invoke your superspeed and try to click the red "Stop" button before the next "Enter Substitution Variable" prompt pops up. This usually takes a few hundred tries before it works, depending on how fast you are with the mouse. Perhaps a gaming mouse might help?

Workaround #2: don't forget to SET DEFINE OFF, stupid!

Thanks
