Unable to register any components with Shared Services.

We're currently in the process of building a new Hyperion environment using v11.1.1. The installs all see fine but every config for 'Register with Shared Services' has returned as Failed even though everything else is success. Shared Services appears to be running fine on the server.
In our current v9.3.1 environment, you would enter the Windows server that Shared Services is running on in the config. In v11.1.1 it seems you enter the Shared Services database connection instead. Is this correct?
Any tips on how to resolve this and have these components register successfully with Shared Services?
