Unable to get java 1.3 applet to run

843798Nov 17 2008 — edited Nov 18 2008
I had java 1.6 JDK + netbeans installed then a business reason came up which required me to run a old legacy java 1.3.1_18 applet. The applet failed to run under java 1.6. I installed java 1.3, rebooted, and the applet still failed to run.

I unistalled all java jre's & sdk's , rebooted and reinstalled java 1.3. The applet ran! But I also needed netbeans 6 to run, so I reinstalled java 1.6 and the applet failed again.

I uninstalled java 1.6 - but the applet failed to run anymore, and even uninstalling all jre's & jdk's to the best of my ability, rebooting, then reinstalling java 1.3 only is now failing to run the applet - instead I get a error pop up saying

"The Java runtime Environment cannot be loaded from <\bin\hotspot\jvm.dll>"

Also if I look at my "C:<Operating system>\Downloaded Program Files" directory, is indicates the java jre is 'damaged'.

I don't know what to do - no matter how many times I unistall, reboot and re-install the applet will not run ( with that same error pop up ) and it keeps indicating the install is damaged.

What can I do?
