Ultra 20 - How to disable ATI Rage XL on Board Video?

807557Apr 1 2009 — edited Apr 29 2009
I have installed a separate PCIe graphics card (nvidea 6600) in my Ultra 20 (pre M2 version, BIOS 1.7) and it worked fine for about 3 years. Then, after a system reboot, the screen kept black. After some investigation I discovered that the internal graphics card does work. So I assumed that the PCIe card is defective and the system has automatically enabled the internal ATI Rage XL card. I have ordered a new card (nvidea 8800gt), but after installing the internal card is still enabled. I know that there is a BIOS setting to select either PCIe (default) or PCI (the on board ATI Rage XL graphics card), but this switch does not have any effect and the external PCIe card keeps disabled. Unfortunately the Tyan OEM board (K8E) used by Sun does not provide Jumper 11 to disable the card manually...

Does anybody has an idea how to solve this problem? The internal graphics card does not support the resolution of my 24" Monitor and is way to slow.

Best regards,

Frank

Furthermore I had some trouble with the on board sound card. This one seemed to quite working if I use USB port 2 at the backside of the system. Do not know if that one has something to do with my current graphics card problem.
