ULN_REGISTER fails due to expired certificate

user498205Mar 14 2017 — edited Mar 14 2017

Apparently this isn't the first time this issue has arisen: How to resolve uln_register error ULA-CA-CERT is expired

I just installed Oracle Linux 7 Update 1 and already I am having problems. *sigh*

The actual error message I see in /var/log/up2date is as follows:

"The certificate /usr/share/rhn/ULN-CA-CERT is expired. Please ensure you have the correct certificate and your system time is correct."

The date/time on the machine are correct. I looked at the cert file and there appear to be two certificates within it. The first expired in 2010 and the second doesn't expire until 2028. Honestly, I don't care whether the file is correct or not...I shouldn't be running into issues immediately upon installing.

Also worth noting...If you run uln_register as a regular user and authenticate as root using the GTK application, then you will get an error that forces you to take a look at the log file to figure out the issue. If you run uln_register as root from the console, you will get a curses-based application that will information you of the problem without having to slog through log files. The latter is a better user experience every time.

All I want (and I don't think is too much to ask) is to register so I can (hopefully) add channels to install/update Java. Instead I guess I will install it manually. Fun times. I would expect to be able to easily install all of Oracle's software via yum...why else would I bother using this thinly skinned derivative of RedHat instead of CentOS (other than the fact that this appears to be the only free choice that is supported)?

If I sound jaded, that is because my experience with everything-Oracle over the years has almost always been miserable.

So, the question is...how do I work around this problem (short of moving on and using CentOS)?
