Trying to install Oracle Database 12c - INS-20802 Oracle Database Configuration Assistant failed

OhayaJun 19 2017 — edited Jun 21 2017

Hi,

I am trying to install Oracle DB 12c on CENTOS 7 for first time, mainly so that I can stand up a test instance of Cloud Control.

I think I got through almost all of the installation, but then I got an INS-20802 Oracle Database Configuration Assistant failed.

I found this in the /u01/app/oracle/cfgtoollogs/dbca/orcl/orcl.log:

DBCA_PROGRESS : 1%

DBCA_PROGRESS : 2%

[ 2017-06-19 20:58:31.732 EDT ] ORA-00838: Specified value of MEMORY_TARGET is too small, needs to be at least 416M

ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters

DBCA_PROGRESS : 3%

[ 2017-06-19 20:58:31.734 EDT ] ORA-01034: ORACLE not available

[ 2017-06-19 20:58:32.960 EDT ] ORA-01034: ORACLE not available

[ 2017-06-19 20:58:32.960 EDT ] ORA-01034: ORACLE not available

[ 2017-06-19 20:58:38.219 EDT ] DBCA_PROGRESS : DBCA Operation failed.

I found some possible solutions involving creating pfile from spfile, then editing the pfile, but when I try to do the "create pfile from spfile" that is failing.

How can I get pass this?  Is it possible to fix the problem and continue and finish the installation?

Or would be better/easier to start a new installation, but with increased MEMORY TARGET to begin with?  FYI, I took a snapshot of the machine before I ran the runInstaller so I don't mind re-running the runInstaller, but how do I increase the MEMORY TARGET before I start the runInstaller?

Thanks,

Jim
