trimming out blank spaces in PL/SQL

453383Nov 2 2006 — edited Nov 2 2006
Hello,
I'm using the TRIM function to trim out any leading and trailing spaces when selecting data from my tables. It works fine until I select something with nothing but a space in it, and TRIM will not trim the space away.

SELECT TRIM(customeremail) from CUSTOMERS
WHERE customerid = 12

retruns a value with one space in it, when the value of the column contains one space.

Is there a way to trim this down to NULL?

Thanks,

Peter
