Training, Certification, and Career Goals: How did you get where you are?

If you're a software architect, senior developer, or in some similar role, what specific training and/or certifications were the most instrumental in helping you to achieve your career goals?
Are you considering any additional training or certification? If so, please describe in detail.

Your responses will aid in research for an article I am writing for my Architect Community column in Oracle Magazine. Particularly interesting responses may be quoted in the article. Any quotes will be fully attributed.
