Trailing white space in multiple fields

719357Sep 3 2009 — edited Sep 4 2009
Hi,

I have just discovered that CHAR fields retain their trailing white spaces. This is not at all the behaviour I want so I have converted all of associated columns into varchar2 which has stopped the problem happening for future data entry.

However, I would now like to remove the trailing white space from all of the existing data in the database to help with pattern matching without needing to use 'trim' or 'like' all the time.

Is there a quick and easy way (or a free to use tool available for download) that will go through all the varchar2 field in my database stripping out trailling white space?

TIA,
Tom
