traceroute and ping follow different paths!!!!

807557Oct 23 2007 — edited Oct 24 2007
Hi folks,

I have been installing approximately 10 servers using jumpstart, and all has been going well thus far.

These are a combination of v490s and v240s, and are all running Solaris 10 11_06 SUNWCuser.

Each machine has some IPMP configuration on it's production interfaces, however, every IPMP test interface is showing up as FAILED.

When doing further investigation, I see that there seems to be a difference in the way that the servers try to get to the production net if I user "traceroute" (uses the correct path, as per routing table) against if I use "ping" (uses incorrect path, and therefore IPMP does not get its response from the test addresses, and marks the interface as failed).

Below is an example, showing the routing table, and showing the results from a traceroute command, the results from a ping command, the routing table, the contents of my /etc/netmasks, /etc/hosts, /etc/inet/ipnodes (although I'm not using that file), the output from ifconfig.....

Can anyone explain why I am seeing this behavior?
