to remove currency from the salary

i have a table sal which has a column salary and sale, salary has data like
salary sale
Rs1000 1000
Rs1542 1542
Rs2000 2000
$1452 1452
$4578 4578
etc
now in sale i want data to be without the currency value. a pl/sql procedure code is needed to remove these currency values like (Rs,$) etc....
plz help....
