To get the last date of year

Can anyone tell me how to get last date of the year while passing the First date of year:
My below query is giving the last date of the month

SELECT LAST_DAY(ADD_MONTHS(TO_DATE('01/01/2012','DD/MM/YYYY'),12 -
TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'mm')))) FROM DUAL
