to_Date function

I have a date field with datetime values in the following format
12/27/2006 7:35:59 AM
12/27/2006 7:37:52 AM
12/28/2006 12:13:30 AM
12/28/2006 6:18:51 AM
, i would like to convert it to 2006-12-27 07:35:59 format with datatype as date.
when i use it as to_date (event_dtime, 'yyyy-mm-dd HH24:Mi:ss') then its showing wrong date as 12/6/0027
12/6/0027
12/6/0028
12/6/0028
Any help is appriciated.
