The SunPCSC Provider

843851Apr 23 2007 — edited Apr 25 2007
Hi all,

Can somebody explain me exactly what the sunPCSC provider (found with the samrtcardio in Java 6) is used for?
1) Is it a Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP)?
2) The support of a similar provider is necessary to encrypt (on the card) and decrypt (on the computer) with the same algorithms. Is this correct???
3) According to Sun: The SunPCSC provider enables applications to use the Java Smart Card I/O API to interact with the PC/SC Smart Card stack of the underlying operating system. BUT what has it to do with security? If we have a look at lib/security/java.security we can find "security.provider.8=sun.security.smartcardio.SunPCSC" but I cannot see the link of it's not a CSP

I'm gratefull for any useful answers!
Thx in advance,
Kurt
