The recommended approach to connect to mysql for DML using apex

Dear all,

I am using oracle database 10.2.0.5 on windows 64bits.

I have MySQL 5.6 Community Edition.

I am creating a mobile application in apex which need to read and write data from MySQL.

I have visited some pages

How To Access MySQL from Oracle With ODBC and SQL

could somebody tell me this is the only approach? or we have any other recommended approach other than that?
