The Citizen Developer: Threat or Opportunity?

Bob Rhubart-OracleMay 31 2016 — edited Jun 27 2016

code-on-screen-350.jpgAre you familiar with the term "citizen developer?"

The Gartner IT Glossary describes a citizen developer as "a user who creates new business applications for consumption by others using development and runtime environments sanctioned by corporate IT." In an interview I did with Oracle Mobile and Development Tools Product Manager Shay Shmeltzer he said, "citizen developer is the way that my job is going to be obsolete."

Advances in development tools are indeed making it easier to develop business applications, even for those with limited skills. But how will this affect your world? Do you see the citizen developer as a threat or an opportunity? Have you formulated a plan of action, or do you think the impact will be minimal? Share your thoughts here.

Your contributions to this discussion will provide background for an upcoming article in Oracle Magazine, and may even be quoted in the article -- with full attribution, of course.

In order to be included in the article your comments must be posted here by Monday June 20, 2016 Monday June 27, 2016.
