Text overflow in JTable cell

843807Apr 6 2010 — edited Apr 7 2010
I'm writing a pseudo-spreadsheet using a JTable and would like to duplicate the "text overflow" behavior that an OpenOffice or Excel spreadsheet exhibits.

To be clear, the feature works like this: If the text in a cell is too long to fit in the cell and there is no entry in the cell to the right of that cell, the text overflows or lays over the top of the cell to the right.

That's the context. My question is, is there any way to cause a custom cell renderer to extend wider than the column that it is in? Is there some other approach that might work? Am I totally out of luck?

Regards,
Kip
