TDE on tablespaces/datafiles on ASM storage: does it make sense ?

3826378Sep 13 2019 — edited Sep 13 2019

Hello,

In order to retrieve data stored in ASM-based datafiles it would require some serious

hacking skills right ?, it's not like one can easily run a "strings <dbf name>" against a

file of which no OS command can show you a single byte...

So when considering to encrypt data of a DB hosted on ASM diskgroups: do you

guys think it's really worth it ?

Ever heard of someone (either internal, or from external source) managing to dump

ASM-based datafiles somewhere else to read and exploit their contents ?!? Isn't

adding TDE layer on such databases a bit far fetched  ?

Or am I too optimistic ?

Thanks for sharing ideas...

Regards,

Seb
