Table access by rowid

user60022Oct 27 2010 — edited Oct 28 2010
Hi All,

Today I was asked one quesition, is 'Table access by rowid' full table scan or index scan?
(Please note I am NOT talking about the cost of them)

I was completely confused by this quesion.

In my opinion, 'Table access by rowid' always comes along with the index rang (unique) scan in execution plan.

If we look into this statement isolatedly, I think it is the action to locate one rowid with its physical address and it's neither full table scan nor index scan.

Can I say there are three types of scanning or access in Oracle, by rowid, full table scan and index scan respectively

What's your opinions on this, please?

Thank you very much,

Leon
