Tab characters in input

All,

I am trying to determine whether there is a tab character in an input string but I am having no success and I hope someone can help.

I have tried looking for chr(9) and unicode(\0009) but have had no success.

If I do select chr(9) from dual or select unistr('\0009') from dual in SQL workshop I get nothing displayed.

Anybody got any suggestions ?
