T1000 vs T2000

807557Mar 28 2007 — edited Mar 28 2007
We will be purchasing 4-5 servers over the next few months. They will be used as Oracle development servers attached to a 3511 array. Our Oracle development group is fairly small with 3-4 devs working on any given system at a time. The price point we are looking at has two possible solutions. I was looking for any comments or feedback on either of the following servers:

T1000 8 core 1.0Ghz, 8 GB ram, 2x73 GB SAS drives

T2000 4 core 1.0Ghz, 8 GB ram, 2x73 GB SAS drives

These systems end up about the same price. I understand the T2000 has higher memory and I/O capacity but we will never use that. From what I've read, the T2000 also has 4 memory controllers vs 2 in the T1000.

So are 4 more CPU cores worth 70% (guessing) more memory bandwidth? Any comments?
