System tablespace fragmented after SYS.AUD$ growing

833114Jan 21 2011 — edited Jan 21 2011
We had an audit running for a few days and now our SYSTEM tablespace has grown to 97%. Deleting the data from SYS.AUD% didn't free up space.

I've been looking around the Internet to find a way to free up the space that was used by SYS.AUD$, but it looks like neither of the commands work on the SYSTEM tablespace. (coalesce, shrink, ...)

I've also read that an export/import doesn't work, and that anything less then a database reconstruction doesn't help.

Now, I can't really believe that Oracle didn't preview this case and has no way to free up unneeded space in SYSTEM. I'm certainly not the only one who did run an audit and doesn't need the reserved space after deleting the data. P.S. Just increasing the datafile is no option ...

Thanks.
